I'm addicted to mad cow

drama!

I am a regular reader of about 20 expat blogs and all of the English language Korean newspapers(I know that they are not the best source, but my Korean is too weak to read the Korean). I really don't know how this happened, but if I see anything about mad cow, I have to stop and read it. This has been really frustrating lately as the number of these articles as increased dramatically.

For instance check out this list from the Marmot's Hole: here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here. Then you can check out Korea Beat: here, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here. Expat Jane is on the fun too. You can also check out A View From The Fence: here and here.
The Joshing Gnome got into the fray here, here, and here. Zen Kimchi didn't want to be left out as shown here, and here. Brian in Jeollanam-do jumped into the scrap here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here and here. The Metropolitician wrote here, and here. He and Jennifer commented at Bomb English. ROK Drop dropped in here, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here. USINKOREA writes here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here. Roboseyo joined the mix here, here, here, and here. The Party Pooper posted here. Gord Sellar wrote here, and here. A Geek in Korea posted here. Seoul Searcher also threw in his two cents worth here and here. The Western Confucian blogged about it too. They are even protesting in London. That's from London Korean Links. . Big Thoughts posted here and here. I Love Koreans wrote here, here, here and here. Ask a Korean got involved here. Kotaji has a couple of posts here and here. I even posted a little bit here and here.

If you have blogged about this and I didn't list you, please shoot me an email.

If you can stomach the cesspool of Dave's ESL Cafe you can read here, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here.

You can also read the KoreanBridge forum too.

You can move on over to YouTube watch here(English), here(English), here, here, here(English), here(English)(this is an apology for making fun of eating dogs), here and here.

You can read more at The Korean Herald, The Digital Chosun, The Korean Times, The Seoul Times, KBS News, and Oh My News.

The New York Times even got in on the madness. Along with CNN,

You can then check out the MAD COW BLOG run by an American lawyer. I haven't had time to read the whole thing, but something tells me it is not just for information. Wait, he is trolling for clients. Here is his official website. His firm specializes in food poisoning.

You can then check out MICHINSO.net. Oops that is a bar. I wonder if he is doing any business these days?

Somehow, I don't think this show with an English teacher named Michinso would still be on the air these days in Korea.

I for one will be happy when I can sit down with a nice rib eye steak, scan the internet and not see anything about mad or crazy cows.

** Edit CNBC and FOX News joined the fray.

I don't want to get too picky, or seem like a *total* egomaniac, but . . . dude, Bomb English is NOT just the Met! I'm there, too! Please, please, please mention me as something other than an appendage of the media monster that is the Metropolitician?

I was happy at about the third week of Cows Gone Wild!! Hysteria --- the whole thing had gone a long way to verifying one of my key beliefs about Korea's anti-US habits that I've tried to convince K-bloggers of for years.

By the end of the first month, we had also seen enough that only a tiny percentage of die hards were still arguing that a "spike" in anti-US activity was not what we were seeing.

But, now, it is becoming too overwhelming ----- to do a proper review of it for my main anti-US/USFK website....

I'm still going to do it when it has run it's course, but I've given up trying to keep track of all of it day-to-day...

I'll use the media archives....

Back in 2001-2002, the FX Fighter Plane project was a similar event primarily limited to the media and one that people have easily forgotten, but the review of it became so expansive when I went to the news archives, it became a research paper for the MA program I was in at the time....

This Cows Gone Wild!! Hysteria could also be a good sociological, international affairs, Korean studies term paper as well...

Thank you! I feel cool and important now - like sitting with the adults on Turkey day!
It's true - this IS a great time to be doing sociology and anthropology and psychology. So much so that I think tommorow I might have to get up and do something. I'm a little late, but as a folklorist I'd like to go talk to the people out there and see what kind of rumors are floating around, what kind of urban myths are being told . . .

Yeah, I am working on my self questionnaire for people I run into.

미친소가 걱정되세요?
미국 사랑해요?
미국소고기 먹을 수 있어요?

My 72 year old yoga buddy told me he would eat U.S. beef and that the protesters are actually communists. I never knew!

Jennifer? You've not started your own blog? How about "I'm not an appendage to the Met!!!"? Sorry. I couldn't resist ;-)

I just popped in to say thanks for linking to me because, as you can see, I've only got one post on the beef protests (everyone is on it so why bother?) However, I did get some good shots of some protest illustrations that I've got to upload and post. I'll get around to that soon, but argh...this interviewer thing really does keep me busy. So busy I can't opine as much as I'd like on events in Korea...!!!
