Mom and Dad's Visit Recap Part I

I know that you have seen the pictures but to recap my mother and father flew from Mississippi to Korea last week. They arrived on Thursday night. They were able to split a call van with a friend's parents who arrived at the same time. (Thanks Ashley) I came home from school and they were waiting on me. My father was pretty tired and he pretty much went to bed as soon as I got home. My mother and I snuck out to Kim Bab Heaven and grabbed some Kimchie soup and tuna kimbap.

Jaeyoun came home late and we had woke up early and had breakfast with mom and dad and opened our gifts from everyone back home. (thanks mom/dad and Brent/Elizabeth). My parents spent the day relaxing as I had to work on Friday. My bosses wife picked my parents up and they came and spoke to my last class. I only had one student and I think that she was scared to death, but did fine interviewing them. We left school and went and had some pork galbi and came back home to wait on Jaeyoun. The weather was trouble.

Saturday, we woke up and started out heading out to Seoul. We hit Gangnam first and then moved on to Insadong, Seoul City hall and Chungechun. Mom and dad seemed to enjoy Insadong. Mom bought a few gifts and we enjoyed looking at the old pagoda near Insadong. We moved on later that evening to the city hall area where we were treated to tons of Riot police blocking exits to the subway. The weather was horrible. This was a trend we got use to.

Sunday we got up early and with Jaeyoun and headed to Gimpo airport. We flew to Jeju and were met at the airport by Chloe, Jaeyoun's sister. The weather was cloudy, but cleared up and we had a nice late lunch overlooking the sea. We went to dragon's head rock and then went and checked into our Condo. Our room was great and it was close to the beach.(i forget the name) Dad and spent the afternoon walking the beach and checking out the sites near the resort. Chloe picked us up that night for a big family dinner. We went to a traditional Korean restaurant. It was interesting to see mom and dad's face when the first dish they brought out was raw meat with a raw egg on top. The dinner was great and mom and dad enjoyed meeting Jaeyoun's family. They were great sports and Jaeyoun and Chloe did a great job translating for everyone. Jaeyoun's niece Sewanne stole the show. Mom, Dad, and I went back to the resort and Jaeyoun went back with her family. I went out and got some beer and went for a walk along the beach.

Monday, we woke up and Jaeyoun's father picked my dad, mom and myself up for a tour of Jeju. Jaeyoun had to fly back to Seoul early for work. I will say her dad had a plan and we stuck to a tight schedule. We had some conversational barriers, but all in all it was a great day. He took us to some great waterfalls and we went on another great hike and this was all in one day. We basically got a great tour of the whole island. I got sunburned on one arm and have the wierdest tan now. The weather was great and so damn hot. We made it to the airport at 5pm, just in time for our flight home at 5:30. Dad and I did have time get to duty free and pick up some Jack Daniels.
